Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows exempt charities like University College to claim an extra 25p for every £1 you donate (at no additional cost to you). To qualify for Gift Aid, you must be a UK taxpayer and what you pay in income tax and/or capital gains tax must equal the amount we, and any other charities or Community Amateur Sports Club you donate to, will claim in the tax year.
When you make a donation, please tick the checkbox on the online giving form. We can then claim back the Gift Aid tax relief– there's nothing else you need to do.
If you are a higher-rate taxpayer, you can claim back the difference between the tax you've paid on your donation and what Univ got back when you fill in your Self Assessment tax return.
Example: You donate £100 to Univ – we claim Gift Aid to make your donation £125. You pay 40% tax so you can personally claim back £25.00 (£125 x 20%).
Gifts from the USA: Tax-deductible contributions can be made via Americans for Oxford which is a 501c(3) tax-exempt organisation. If you make your gift via the Univ Giving platform and select ‘Donate in USD’ you will be directed to our US donation form.
